NYE 2010/11
thanks to all the folks that reviewed this fine recording and a really big thanks to lou gearing for providing me with the raw wav files & the opportunity of a lifetime(tracking, flac'ing & uploading here and at several BT trackers). this show was definately a fine example of that old gdead groove we all have grown to love & from what ive heard from the spring tour its still rolling along the tracks...
noteworthy from this performance(not included on the official sbd) is the 2011 parade before the "we love you" is the entire "ringling brothers and barnum/bailey circus" theme for those that are or were unaware of it...
anyhow thats all i got for now. peace out & thanks

Thanks for the festivities!!
Really fun festive night as expected for a NYE show. Pretty laid back crowd. Lots of old heads and kids too. First set was started nicely, was a bit mellow, but really rose from there. This incarnation of the Dead really has gotten so much better. They're tight and seemed to have gelled. Bobby and Phil look like they're having fun again and with less pressure as John really brings a wonderful element to the group. This really is the closest feeling to the Grateful Dead since Jerry. A must see along the next tour. Great venue, will be back. Great recording of the show, both here and the soundboard. Thanks for letting me relive a truly magical night!! NFA!!

mountain song
Mountain song is indeed a nice one. I've read that it evolved slowly for a few decades to present form. For those who don't know the disc Sunfighter (Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, et al!) from 1971, the applicable lyric and melody is "gonna make the mountains be my home" from track 6, I think, "when I was a boy I watched the wolves." If interested check wikipedia for the unbelievable assemblage of musicians on Sunfighter, and revel in the Jerry gems thereon.
No offense to Mr. Weir, but he does come through too strongly at times. His playing is a treat to hear these days, though, and it's nice to hear him put some new passion into the former Jerry vocals. I thought this show was less consistent overall, in terms of passion, creative activity, and conversational interplay across the "bandwidth" when compared to fall shows I've heard from Eugene, red rocks, and Chicago. Using those criteria, however, the highlights for me were High on a Mountain, Cumberland, Cassidy, Sugar Mag (which I often loath from too many listens) and especially UNBROKEN CHAIN AND TERRAPIN SUITE. If you wanna get strait to the meat, check out the jam section in the middle of unbroken chain, and then as the lyrics finally wind down ("unbroken chain, you and me, la la la"), the tail section of extended jamming, where JK is really channelling ole Jer...I could go on and on about this Terrapin --one for the ages. The jams contain that creative activity from all players, that conversation across the bandwidth, that is pushing the whole movie furthur.

Really Heroic Playing!
Sentimental venue for me,as i saw my 1st NYE shows here in 1984! Anyway, i was pleased w/ the performances, song choices,Chimenti's chops on the upswing!!!,new singers add great color, and who said Weir's having health problems? Some of the new, young kids are in need of a little correction here and there(show etiquette),but my main complaint, and only bummer was the Obnoxious and WAY ovr the top light show put on by Ms.Candace! Jesus,it actually, for me,upstaged the music and vibes from the stage. You wanna complement, not over ride the stage happenings there,Ms. L.D.!
Maybe back to a simple par wash, and a wiggle light or 2 next time. But please, cool out on the light show. What's next?? Lasers and Hazers??

First, thanks for sharing, anyone who visits this site and relishes the music concurs. It was a a magigal night, the band actually hit stride right at 8:00PM as opposed to the 15 to 30 minute wait after eight. Must have something to do with the globally broadcast event? Glad my wife and I got there on time. Everyone's a critic right? There were some great moments, like the smoking drums in Slipknot, and the other great songs. I've been to 3 of the 5 BGCC shows and the sound was not perfect through the first two sets but very good nonetheless, then, Betty Cantor Jackson appeared and dialed it in, well, not really. Someone on the board got it dialed in, that is for sure. Third set sound is simply pure. Take a listen. Again, listen to Slipknot. Great people, hard to believe these young folks can smoke endless grass and actively groove for 6 hours, dancing the night away. The music never stops, thankfully. Grateful for a great show, good people, and a group of musicians that keep the beat in our blood. Cannot wait for the westcoast tour announcements.

I was there
I was at both these shows and got both the t-shirts to prove it.. other than a couple of anti-social wooks (why do they let these a**holes anywhere near shows??).. I thought the show was a lot better than this recording. We were hall-dancing by the ATM machines and it was AWESOME and the energy flowing off the place was incredible.. Not the GREATESTFURTHURSHOWEVER but pretty spectacular, and much much better than 12/30. But that doesn't really come across in the recording and Bobby's guitar is up annoyingly high in this mix, and John's guitar is too low, kind of hidden. But take it from the spinners, this was an excellent show to be at!!! I give the recording 4 stars because you just can't sense the energy that was there, and the show itself 5 stars..

into 2011....
great show to start 2011 with
the start of the 2nd set is really nice
the combo of Mountain Song > I Know You Rider is a serioulsy strong musical and emotional statement
solid recording. disc #2 goes 83 mins so you'll need an overburn dealio, or I put Golden Road to start disc #3 and removed the 3rd set parade stuff.
thanks for putting this up.
cheers all!

What a Night!
Was there, with a boatload of friends. Bopped around from one place to another with the vibe definitely different in different places. Personally had a fantastic night and enjoyed all the music. Highlights for someone who danced and actually paid attention to the music simultaneously were second set in it's entirety and opening of third, as well as Terrapin Suite.
Had a ton of fun, and heard mixed reviews from those who attended, but mostly we all really enjoy that the band is playing and sharing their great songs and vibes......It's not the dead, and certainly they are not young anymore, but they still play wonderful music and we are blessed to be able to be there while they do. Enjoy the shows!

Nice Show Overall
I wasn't there so just reviewing based on this recording. I rate it a 4 overall- great sounding recording quality for such a big venue. Nice PA mix, clear and upfront sound. Great song selection and execution for the 2nd and 3rd sets. The first set just seems off- odd setlist and feels a bit rushed and forced. i miss the "what'll it be next" aspect of the dead- these guys won't go there yet- or maybe at all, so sometimes the flow out of one tune gets squashed by a forced turn into the next one on the list.
That said, sets 2 & 3 are very nice and flow pretty well. The Stones cover at midnight is a treat. The playing is really on, good vocals/harmonies, great energy and it sounds like a good time was had by all.
